“Equalifornia” is my dream for the future of California, a dream that is quickly becoming a reality even amidst the hate and fear. Equalifornia is about recognizing the equal rights of people of all sexual and gender identities: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, queer, transgendered, et cetera.
Equalifornia the blog will specifically chronicle the struggle to legalize same-sex marriage in California and keep it legal. As I sit here writing from Sacramento, with my fiancee anxiously following the news from her residence in Massachusetts, I know that I am a part of a historical tide that each day is gaining ground towards the push for true equality. The anti-gay bigots attempting to stop same-sex marriage may bellow and holler and condemn everyone who disagrees with them, but in the end, they are on the losing side of history. Equal protection of the laws is what the Constitution is all about.
But we need people fighting this fight to make it happen, because the ballot initiative in November attempting to ban same-sex marriage won’t just defeat itself. Join me in standing up for what’s right.
